I'm rewatching Avatar with my daughters, and for whatever reason apples are our snack of choice while doing so. One thing led to another and "I want to eat apple and watch Avatar!" became "I want Appletar!" and so I ended up drawing this for them.

Aang is an apple, because he's the Appletar. Sokka and Katara are sea prunes, because that's the only fruit-like southern water tribe thing we could think of. Toph is a melon, because she is not Toph, she is MELON LORD.

Zuko is a banana.

I wonder if you're enjoying
the curvature of her back.
The spine, a row of ossified crowns
crowded and curved around that defining neural superhighway;
that extension cord,
adventurously connecting the visceral
to the peripheral.
The horseshoe crab vertebrae
scuttle to break through skin at your touch;
reach out,
a defining shiver.
I see your hands
around the rounded hills of her shoulders.
Scapulae jutting out with the extremity of the bend,
ungraceful,
like a chicken's wings.
And the bands of these dorsal muscles
stand up like wings,
cast shadows in the dimples of the pelvis that she lifts;
